I was clearing the breakfast dishes from the table when my Dad stuck his head in the open door way to the kitchen. He said, Bob I need your help, can you come with me? Just need to go a mile down the road. Bob was really good about helping with what ever Dad needed. I'll bring him back in a bit, Tina Marie. My Dad always called me that.
Jim and Nancy were visiting for the week end. Dad said, come on Jim we may need you too. They hopped in the old beat up truck of Dads. My brother-in-law Jim was driving, with dirt flying behind as they pulled out onto the gravel road. Dad looked over at Bob and Jim with a smile, you two scared of bees? They both looked a little puzzled. Bob said, not scared just don't like them. Jim said, I don't get close enough to be scared. Dad laugh at them both. They won't bother you if you move slow and stay calm.
About a mile down the road Dad told Jim to turn into a drive way of a old farm house. The house had broken shutters barely hanging on the windows and the white paint was almost gone from the old house. Boards needed to be replaced on the porch or you might fall through it. The old place looked run down with weeds and broken fences.
Old man Johnson stepped out his door and said drive on back behind the house and help yourself to as many as you want. I'd help you but my leg hurts real bad today. Dad thanked the old man, and told Jim to drive on behind the house. Jim drove the truck slowly through the tall weeds about two hundred feet behind the old house. Junk was piled all over the place. Dad told Jim to back the truck up close to the old white boxes. He wanted at least two boxes. There were about ten boxes with bees swarming around all of them.
They all got out of the truck. Dad walked over to one of the bee hives and started to lift it. It was heavier then it looked. He told Bob and Jim he needed help getting the box in the back of the truck. Bob and Jim were taking their time walking closer to the boxes, bees were getting more aggressive. They looked at each other and thought this is crazy.
Dad was getting impatient and grabbed the box, and tried to lift it in the back of the truck. The bottom of the box was wet, rotten and fell to the ground, bees went every where storming into the cab of the truck and all around the three of them. Bees were attacking by storm.
Bob and Jim froze and thought if they were very still the bees might settle down. As they were standing still bees got in under their caps and was buzzing around their heads. They were trying not to move but the buzzing sound was getting louder and louder. Bob knew the bees would start stinging them if they moved.
Bob and Jim stood it as long as they could. They both flinched from a bee thrusting his stinger into their flesh and then another bee sting and another, afflicting with sharp quick pain, on top of the head and on their ears, face, neck and arms. They both were feeling a keen burning pain. Until they could stand no more. Taking their caps off, both ran to get away from the bees.
My dad also feeling a keen burning pain, picked up the rest of the box of bees and managed to get it in the truck by himself. He also had bee stings all over his arms, face and neck. Breathing heavily he got in the truck and started it up. Then told the boys to get in, let's go.
Jim got in the truck, but when Bob saw all the bees buzzing around in the cab of the truck he told Dad that he wasn't riding home with all those bees. Said, he would just walk home. So Dad and Jim came home with the bees buzzing all around them. Dad parked the truck out in the Apple orchard where he lifted the busted box of bees out onto the ground with Jim's help. He then left the truck there until the bees settled down.
Dad walked to the house, and with a big smile said, Tina Marie you need to go up the road to pick Bob up. He wanted to walk back home. Didn't want to ride back with the bees. Dad was laughing now. You should have seen those two standing there covered in bees! It was so funny.
So I got in my car and went to pick Bob up. When he got in the car, the stings were already swelling.
Dad, Bob and Jim all had a lot of bee stings all over them. From the storm of bees!

Popping Eggs!
|

|
Popping Eggs! I decided to have Egg Salad Sandwich for lunch today. So I put 6 eggs in a six quart pan. Poured cold water in, enough to cover the eggs at least an inch. Added a half teaspoon of salt. This helps prevent eggs from cracking while boiling also makes them easier to peel. Put the burner on high to bring water to a boil. My next step did not happen... (to remove the pan from the heat, and reduce the heat to low, then return the pan to the burner, let simmer for a minute. After a minute remove the pan from the heat again. Cover, and let set 10 minutes.) ...Because, I took my coffee I was drinking and went up stairs to answer my cell phone that I had left there. I talked a minute or two then checked my messages and forgot all about the boiling eggs. After a few minutes I heard this 'pop' sound. I thought it came from outside and ignored it. Then a few minutes more heard another 'pop' then another. So I went down stairs to check it out. As soon as I got down stairs I remembered the eggs. I could smell a sulphuric smell. As I walked in the kitchen another egg 'popped'. What a mess, pieces of eggs were all over the stove. Some in the floor too. I threw out the burnt eggs left in the pan and started cleaning the mess up. Then I opened the door and windows to get the smell out of the apartment. Needless to say I did not get to eat my egg salad sandwich! |

Mother-Daughter Love!
Mother, you are more stubborn then
I!
You know me better than anyone.
Yet, you still say I should not go to this Party.
We have known Mary for years,
And she can be trusted, as I can!
Sure there will be boys there,
and what is a Party without boy friends.
You were young once and know how I feel.
You have met John and voiced you like him.
We have been dating seven months now.
I feel you trust both of us and still don’t understand
why you don’t want me to go to this Party.
Have you heard something is going to happen?
And you don’t approve? If you have tell me!
You know I don’t do what everyone else does. I follow no one.
I am adventurous and have done my best to stay out of trouble.
I do know right from wrong! You have taught me that!
You worry too much, and you don’t need too!
I love and respect you and do everything to make you proud!
Mom, I know family is very important! But friends are also important!
Sometimes one can be closer to a friend than a family member.
Mom, isn’t two nights a week enough for family time?
With my job and school nights, that is all I can spare right now.
I need a Party Night out to relax once in a while.
To put on a pretty party dress and hills.
To let my hair down, laugh and dance, with friends.
Oh, I knew you would understand Mom!
That is only one of the reasons, I love you!
You know Mom; one day when you’re gone it will be my friends
there holding my hand as I say my good byes!
And Mom, I do hope that will be a long, long time from now!

Donuts on Ice!

My son had been in the Hospital a few days, having tubes put in his ears and getting his tonsils removed. Jeff had been sick most of his young five years. His tonsils were so large, the slightest sore throat or cold was life threatening for him. His surgery went very well and recovery was great. But Jeff didn’t seem to want to talk anymore. His throat hurt him when he would say anything, so he just stop talking. Instead he would shake his head yes or no.
This January winter day in 1975, on the day we were to go home, the roads were icy and still had snow on top of the ice. I had my car and didn’t want my husband to leave work and come get us. I was kinda used to driving on ice so decided to drive home. I got Jeff checked out of the Hospital and loaded in the warm car. It was a thirty minute drive home and I was nervous. Taking it slow and easy we made it out of town and was doing very well on the country road. There were only a few cars in front of me and we were all staying a safe distance from each other. Driving about the same speed. The road was slick and the car would slide a little, but as long as I stayed in the car tracks it was fine. I was talking to Jeff most of the time, trying to calm him. He still wasn’t saying a word just shaking his head yes or no.
I noticed one of the cars ahead turned off onto a side street. Then after a bit another car went around a pick up ahead of us. The pick up was driving slower and for us to keep our cars moving at a steady speed it was inevitable to go around this pick up. So each car took its turn going around this truck. When it came my turn, I had to wait for the ongoing traffic to clear. My car was really slowing down and up ahead was an incline in the road. I knew I had to go now and get up speed to make it up this incline, or this pick up and I would both be stuck and maybe slide off the road. I knew this road well and there were several more inclines ahead that were much bigger. So I gave it some gas and turn the car into the other lane to go around. As the car hit the icy snow in the center of the road my car went into a spin. It felt like my car turned around a few times. But it had only turned around once, and my car was going back the way we came in the other lane.
My son who hadn’t spoken for a day, finally said ‘Mom, we’er going the wrong way home’! I smiled at him and said ‘yes I know’. I’ll stop at the station we past half a mile back and call Dad to come drive us home, I’m just too nervous to drive the rest of the way home. Dad will be surprised when we tell him we did a donut on ice! Jeff and I both laugh, because we knew how Dad liked to play on ice and snow, and do donuts.

Yorkie Name Hayle!

Hi my name is Hayle, a full Yorkie Terrior! Yes that means my mother and father are Yorkies. My owner and best companion ever, has me registered with the AKC. To describe my size, my small head is in proportion with my compact body; with little prick ears on one end complementing my docked tail on the other. My body is draped in steel-blue wavy silk hair, with redish blonde on my head and legs. My owner combs and fixes my top knot everyday, then bathes me on Sundays. This keeps my medium length hair shiny, clean and tangle free. I guess you could say I’m tiny in size, have glossy good looks, a keen intelligence, and have a big-dog outlook on life. I’m athletic and like my morning walks with my owner. That’s when I get to say hello to our neighbors and a handsomely Red haired Pomeranian that lives down the street. I’m friendly and outgoing, only speak dog, not English. I can recognize an astonishing number of words, my favorites are ‘I love you’ and my owner speaks them every day, when she kisses the top of my head. My owner has learned how to communicate and got my looks, body language and little quite sounds down pat! I don’t bark unless I have too. Like when someone comes to the door or is walking to close to our Apartment. I love being with my owner without being under her feet, but I also like my independence and will go to the bedroom for a nap alone. She lets me sleep on the foot of the bed at night and I think that’s big of her. Since I do snore when I’m sleeping on my back.

My First Auto

My First Automobile, well I should say, the first Automobile I bought for myself, by myself. Was a 2005 Ford Mustang! I had been thinking about buying a new car for a few months and started looking online. I was off work on Saturdays, so I decided to go car shopping. I asked my son to go with me. We had stopped and looked at several dealers in Muskogee and test drove a few cars. We then drove to the Ford Dealer Car lot. They had a lot of Mustangs and that was what I wanted to buy. I fell in love with this car the first time I saw it. I wasn’t thinking of buying a convertible, but when I saw this one, wow, that was the car I wanted. I drove it and liked everything about it, the look, feel, and smell! I liked the deal they made me on the price and bought it. It took a little while to get all the paperwork done before I could drive it home. . My very first, beautiful 2005 white Ford Mustang Convertible, with a black soft top. V6 Automatic, 2 door, keyless entry, black cloth interior, bucket seats. Loaded with power windows, mirrors, cruise control, steering and brakes, aluminum/alloy wheels. Stereo with CD player. It had everything I wanted in a car and more.
My late husband had always been the one to buy our cars since we were married many years ago. He had worked in an Auto Garage as a machanic, since he got out of High School and new automobiles very well. He drove a 1955 green Chevy with white leather interior when I met him back in High School. After High School we got married and bought a 1962 white Chevy pickup with a camper, for a second vehicle. We liked going to the lake and camping. After our daughter and son were born, he bought a 1963 blue Dodge for me to drive. We had sold the 55 Chevy. I remember this Dodge being automatic with push buttons to change the gears. I drove the Dodge until reverse went out, so we sold it. Then he bought a blue 1966 Mercury, Comet. It didn’t have air conditioning and I drove with the windows down in the hot summer time. It was a nice car, but without air conditioning we didn’t keep it very long. Then in 1982 he bought a new Chevy, Monty Carlo for my birthday. The color was Cream and Champagne a very pretty car. I loved that car and drove it several years. My daughter and son learn to drive using the Monty Carlo. Both of them used it to take their drivers license test. We sold it later after the kids were grown and bought a 1985 Red Nissan pickup. In 1989 bought a blue and silver Ford pickup. Then in 1995 we thought we needed a Ford Van. We liked to take weekend trips and had 3 grandchildren by then. So a Van was nice to have. Much later we drove a 1998 Silver Dodge pickup and 2001 Silver Toyota, Ecco. Thinking back now, I guess we changed cars about every 4 years. Over the past years I learned a lot about Cars and a little about buying and selling them by watching and listening!
A few weeks after I bought my new Ford Mustang, I decided to take a weekend trip in my new car. Early Saturday morning I packed an overnight bag and started out toward Memphis, Tennessee. I had been driving over an hour and realized I forgot to tell my kids I was going out of town for the weekend. So I called my daughter to tell her. She scolded me a little for leaving town without telling her or her brother first. This was something I had to get used to doing now that I was a Widow and lived alone. I am such an independent person and old habits are hard to break. When my husband was living and we were going to go out of town for trips, he was the one that called the kids and let them know our plans. Now it’s up to me, so when I decide to go, I call my kids and tell them first.
I took many fun trips after that and joined the Mustang Club. It was fun Cruising down route 66, in my Ford Mustang with the top down, with all the other Mustangs. I was proud and it felt good to own my Mustang! Years later I sold the Mustang. I still miss it!
Automobiles play a big part in our everyday lives. Most of us need them to get from one place to another. We use them for work and play. I have been driving so many years. I don’t know what I would do without a Automobile! Owning my own Car gives me freedom to go, where I want and when I want. I don’t have to depend on someone else for transportation.

My Empty Heart

We married so young in our teens
High School sweethearts
Had a daughter a son and later three grandchildren
Our love grew strong and stronger as the thirty eight years passed
shared everything and loved being together
We were truely best friends lovers and soulmates
One day Illness came and slowly pulled you down
Doctors knowledge spoken depression followed
Lung cancer consumed nodes bones brain
Radiation burned and weakened body
No chemo to prolong were your wishes
You suffered bearing pain each day to have one more
Tears left behind the last breath
Your spirit gone long before you left my arms
Tears and tears I have cried
Gone cold holding you next to me
Nothing left but my empty heart

Bed time Ritual!

We had just returned from our evening walk. My head felt heavy as I opened the front door. My tired aching body just wanted to crawl in bed and never get up again. Maybe stay there for the rest of my life. But I knew in the back of my mind, I would be doing this all over again tomorrow!
I knew that I had something to do first. I went through the motions like I was in a trance. Filling one bowl with water and putting her favorite ‘Cesar canine crusine with beef in meaty juices’ in the other. After doing this twice a day for the past three years; I could do it in my sleep.
I went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth, then stepped in the shower. The hot water soothed my body as it slowly relaxed. After five or ten minutes I stepped out and dried off. Put on my pajamas and climbed in bed. I pulled the covers over me as I lay my head down on the pillow. She was finishing the Cesar crusine in her bowl. Then she came and curled up on the bed beside me. The bed felt warm and just soft enough for my body to totally relax, we both drifted off to sleep.

Hayle’s Golden Hair!
My first time in a deer stand!
I was visiting a friend in Mississippi this past December 2010. He is passionate about deer hunting and goes all out for it. He is a member of a deer camp in South Mississippi. He invited me to go with him while I was visiting. I had never been to a deer camp and my imagination was piqued when he told me about it. So I decided to go on this adventure.
We pulled into the camp area early in the day. Trailers and cabins were lined up in two rolls, In a very heavy wooded area. I think there were about twenty in all. As we pulled in another pickup was leaving and we stop to chat with the man driving. He said everyone was at the camp and getting ready to go out to their stands for the day. One gentleman had already shot a deer early that morning. Lots of doe had been sighted at several feed plots that belonged to the camp. The man said he was going into town and would be right back and asked if we needed anything from town, and then he left. We pulled up to the trailer and unloaded the truck. My friend took a shower to get any scent off him and started putting on his camo gear. He told me I needed to do the same if I wanted to go to the deer stand that evening. So I showered too. He had some extra camo clothing for me to wear. So I put on camo from my head to my boots. This was my first time to wear clothing like this. So it was all new to me.
I took my camera with me and we rode the four wheeler to the area where the deer stand was that he was hunting out of for the evening. We parked and walked down a path about six hundred feet to an open area called a feed plot. The deer stand was a big box on a stand about fifteen feet off the ground. It was painted camo and had only two chairs in it. We climbed the ladder up to the small door and climbed in. I sat down into the chair and propped my feet up on a board in front of me. There were openings about eye level all around the box. The openings had burlap curtains that were camo too. I moved the one in front and to the left side of me over, so I could see out over the green feed plot area. My friend climbed in and sat in the chair beside me, and closed the small door to the deer stand or box as I call it.
We sat there quietly for a hour or two, whispering about this or that. My tummy started growling from hunger, and I was getting tired of just sitting so long. Just then we saw a turkey walking down a path toward the green feed plot, and there were more following him. We sat there watching as twelve big turkeys wobbled their way down the path to the open area in front of us. I took some pictures of these big birds and watched them for about thirty minutes eating, before they started wondering off into the woods.
It was starting to get dark when two big doe came out of the timber onto the green feed plot next. We watched them for a while and it was getting darker, we would need to use a flashlight to see how to walk back to the four wheeler if we didn’t leave soon. Just then a big buck came out of the woods to feed. Wow! "I had never seen one this big before, he was a ten point; his antlers were a big spread outside his ears. His front legs were black and his body was big." It was really exciting to see him and be this close to a big buck. My friend raised his rifle and took aim and shot the big buck. It happened so fast the buck dashed out into the woods when the shot went off. My friend was so excited he said, I got it! it's hit! Wow!
My ears were still ringing and my heart was racing, we climbed down the ladder and walked over to the spot where the deer was shot. We followed the blood trail to where the big buck lay about fifteen feet into the wooded area. My friend marked the area, and then we went to get the four wheeler so we could load the deer to take him to the camp. When we arrived at the camp other hunters had heard the shot and came to get a look at the big buck, and hear about the shooting of it.
When I think about the time, sitting and waiting, for the big buck to show up. I think It’s over rated! To sit in a box, fifteen feet in the air, over looking a green feed plot in the middle of the woods. Where you can’t talk or move for hours, well that’s just not what I imagined at all! Not something I would want to do very often.

Saturday Laundry Day!

Saturdays were known as Laundry day, when I was growing up. It started early and most Saturdays took all day. The electric washing machines were rare back in the 1950‘s. My mom had the Montgomery Ward Washing Roller Machine.
I started helping my mom do the laundry when I was very young…six or seven years old I think. I remember watching her use the ringer washer, where the tub had these two ringers (rollers) on top and you would put the cloths between the ringers and then the ringers would squeeze the water out as it turned and rolled them through the two rollers. Then you would drain the water out of the tub and start with the rinse water, doing the same thing. I was fascinated by how it worked. One day I was helping her and as I put some clothes in the ringer my hand went between the ringer with the clothes and it just kelp going, pulling it in deeper. It hurt and I was screaming for help. It took a few minutes for my mom to get my hand free, but it felt like forever. Sorry to say these washing machines were not very kid friendly. I also remember her using a wash board, it was made from wood and glass. You would put soap on the clothes, then rub them on the boards glass ridges. It would somehow help get the clothes clean when heavily soiled. I still have that wash board to this day…it is at my daughters house in storage!
I have to admit, I do like new technology and the Machine Age. The washing Machines today, agitate and spin the clothes around in the tub. They are much safer to use, you just choose the settings, put soap and the clothes in and push start. You can walk away and it will buzz when its done. Now laundry can be done any day of the week and finished in about 2 hours (depending on how much laundry you have to do). I’m just thankful we never had to take the clothes down to the creek and beat them on a rock, like was done before my mom’s time.
A friend recently wrote to me that his daughter, apparently still believes the hamper does the laundry - you drop it in the hamper and it appears later folded on your bed.
Haha… I never looked at laundry like that before. (done by the laundry basket or hamper).

Movie "Crazy Heart" with Jeff Bridges

The movie "Crazy Heart" with Jeff Bridges, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Robert Duvall was very good. I didn't know Jeff could sing, and I have to say very good.
Jeff plays aging country singer, Bad Blake...a story of him becoming an alcoholic after way too many marriages, and many years on the road. He is a loner, who travels the backroads, playing his music to small crowds in bowling alleys and bars.
When he meets Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal) decides to sober up. This is a very touching story.
So put this movie on your must see list!
The Finger!
You come in all sizes! You extend yourself to others.
When used often affect motion.
You leave lines so one may know you.
You like to play with shape and sometimes have tips of color!

Water!
I need you. Even though you can kill me!
Your social and people gather around you.
Can’t smell or taste you, even when your hot or cold.
You can circulate through my body.
You move waveless in the bed.
Your body has much force and is very strong.
You even rise and fall like the tide.
You must have balance in areas large or small.

Sunshine!
I missed you today! I went without your warmth upon my body.
I didn’t feel like going out in the chilled air, that you leave when your not here.
Things just don’t look the same. When you’re here things glow, they even grow.
You make everything shine, and radiate heat from the ground up.
I can stand still and feel your warmth on my skin. It gives me energy and makes me feel alive.
I go to bed and hope that as morning dawns you will appear again!
What am I?

First Meetings!

My loving owner put my lease on me and took me out for a walk. We were walking for a while and all I can see is these boxes with wheels on them. Then I smell something like bananas and peanut butter. There was a big human sitting in a chair holding a cat. Now Cats are ok, but I just don’t like their stinky, musky smell or the way their strange eyes look right through me. Most of them are not friendly. They make this swish sound, opening their mouth and showing big dirty, sharp teeth, arching their back with the hair standing up, then they raise their claws, like this is going to scare me! Yeah! Right! That’a be the day when this Yorky freaks out! haha
We walked a little further and I had to squat on some grass to pee. The grass is hard to find in this place. It’s mostly pavement and gravel. I’d been holding it for a while now. So it felt good to let it go finally. We had been walking for a while when another human smelling of smoke and some kind of meat, “bacon I think” (yes I know what bacon is), comes near us holding a lease, attached was a small Red haired Yorky running toward me. There he was…RED, straight hair, but standing shorter than me. (I was thinking, “I like the way he walks”). I couldn’t help smelling of his butt. At the same time he smells of mine. I know, I know, it’s a dog thing! Then he gets all excited, and… and a little aggressive for me. I’m not sure what he is thinking, but it’s not to my liking. He touches my butt again with his cold wet nose. He gets more excited and playful even, but I don’t feel like playing with this red haired stranger. Oops… he is trying to get too close to my butt now…I’m thinking he may mount it any minute. And no one mounts me, unless I say they can! And it’s not going to happen today. I’m just not ready for that! Now maybe a. month ago, I would have put my butt in his face, and danced a little for any attention I could get. But not now, not today!
I start growling a little at him to leave me alone, then I get close to my owners feet, so she will pick me up. Thank goodness, she understands just what I’m thinking and reaches down to pick me up. The red hair male stud is looking up at me and shaking his tale. Oh gosh, now he’s standing on his hind legs and jumping around with his tounge hanging out. Now you gotta give him credit he is trying! I think he’s friendly and all, but I’m just not into him today. I’m sure oh Red and I will meet again! ‘Cause I know where he lives. I’m all done with my walk and Reds dancing, and just want to curl up on the couch next to my owner, where it’s nice and warm!

Not feeling well...have a sore throat!
I went to visit a friend in Hospital the other day! Yesterday I woke up with my throat hurting and a little sore. Its not any better today. Think I will just stay in bed all day! Maybe it will be better tomorrow.
I hate the smell of a Hospital, the food is never good. You can't get any rest in them. About the time you doze off to sleep a nurse comes in and wakes you. Its always time for a shot, or for them to take blood.
If your feeling good before you go in one....you may not be for long. Cause you can catch anything after you visit one!
I know...I know, I'm just feeling bad and cranky!

Creamy International Delight!

It was early morning and I poured a cup of coffee. I took a french vanilla creamer single from the box, to add in my coffee. I snapped the small tab backwords and pulled on it to open, but it didn't budge. I pulled and tugged some more trying to open it. But it just was not working with me.
The top covering is so thin, looks very easy to poke a hole in it. I was being very careful not to spill it. Its very small and so good. I wanted all of it in my cup of coffee and not on the counter. So I'm still tugging and it just will not open. After a minute or two, I'm getting more aggressive with it. Really needing that cup of coffee this morning.
So I start adding more force and when I do, it finally opens up and the thin foil on top tears, the cream spills on to my hands, splatters onto my face and all over the front of me. I have on this low cut tank top this morning so most of the cream is on me. Now this stuff is so good I start licking it off my fingers, face, shoulders and chest. if you have ever tasted this delightful cream, well you know how good and sinful it tastes. So here I am licking and trying to get every drop off of me.
By the time I got most of it off, I look down and there is little left in the packet, so I put that in my mouth....mmmm so good. Not wanting to waist a drop of it. Then I reach for another packet to put in my cup of coffee. The second one opened up easier and I poured it into the cup. mmmmmmm so creamy delightful!
