Storm of Bees!

I was clearing the breakfast dishes from the table when my Dad stuck his head in the open door way to the kitchen. He said, Bob I need your help, can you come with me? Just need to go a mile down the road. Bob was really good about helping with what ever Dad needed. I'll bring him back in a bit, Tina Marie. My Dad always called me that.
Jim and Nancy were visiting for the week end. Dad said, come on Jim we may need you too. They hopped in the old beat up truck of Dads. My brother-in-law Jim was driving, with dirt flying behind as they pulled out onto the gravel road. Dad looked over at Bob and Jim with a smile, you two scared of bees? They both looked a little puzzled. Bob said, not scared just don't like them. Jim said, I don't get close enough to be scared. Dad laugh at them both. They won't bother you if you move slow and stay calm.
About a mile down the road Dad told Jim to turn into a drive way of a old farm house. The house had broken shutters barely hanging on the windows and the white paint was almost gone from the old house. Boards needed to be replaced on the porch or you might fall through it. The old place looked run down with weeds and broken fences.
Old man Johnson stepped out his door and said drive on back behind the house and help yourself to as many as you want. I'd help you but my leg hurts real bad today. Dad thanked the old man, and told Jim to drive on behind the house. Jim drove the truck slowly through the tall weeds about two hundred feet behind the old house. Junk was piled all over the place. Dad told Jim to back the truck up close to the old white boxes. He wanted at least two boxes. There were about ten boxes with bees swarming around all of them.
They all got out of the truck. Dad walked over to one of the bee hives and started to lift it. It was heavier then it looked. He told Bob and Jim he needed help getting the box in the back of the truck. Bob and Jim were taking their time walking closer to the boxes, bees were getting more aggressive. They looked at each other and thought this is crazy.
Dad was getting impatient and grabbed the box, and tried to lift it in the back of the truck. The bottom of the box was wet, rotten and fell to the ground, bees went every where storming into the cab of the truck and all around the three of them. Bees were attacking by storm.
Bob and Jim froze and thought if they were very still the bees might settle down. As they were standing still bees got in under their caps and was buzzing around their heads. They were trying not to move but the buzzing sound was getting louder and louder. Bob knew the bees would start stinging them if they moved.
Bob and Jim stood it as long as they could. They both flinched from a bee thrusting his stinger into their flesh and then another bee sting and another, afflicting with sharp quick pain, on top of the head and on their ears, face, neck and arms. They both were feeling a keen burning pain. Until they could stand no more. Taking their caps off, both ran to get away from the bees.
My dad also feeling a keen burning pain, picked up the rest of the box of bees and managed to get it in the truck by himself. He also had bee stings all over his arms, face and neck. Breathing heavily he got in the truck and started it up. Then told the boys to get in, let's go.
Jim got in the truck, but when Bob saw all the bees buzzing around in the cab of the truck he told Dad that he wasn't riding home with all those bees. Said, he would just walk home. So Dad and Jim came home with the bees buzzing all around them. Dad parked the truck out in the Apple orchard where he lifted the busted box of bees out onto the ground with Jim's help. He then left the truck there until the bees settled down.
Dad walked to the house, and with a big smile said, Tina Marie you need to go up the road to pick Bob up. He wanted to walk back home. Didn't want to ride back with the bees. Dad was laughing now. You should have seen those two standing there covered in bees! It was so funny.
So I got in my car and went to pick Bob up. When he got in the car, the stings were already swelling.
Dad, Bob and Jim all had a lot of bee stings all over them. From the storm of bees!

Popping Eggs!

Popping Eggs!

I decided to have Egg Salad Sandwich for lunch today. So I put 6 eggs in a six quart pan. Poured cold water in, enough to cover the eggs at least an inch. Added a half teaspoon of salt. This helps prevent eggs from cracking while boiling also makes them easier to peel. Put the burner on high to bring water to a boil.
My next step did not happen...
(to remove the pan from the heat, and reduce the heat to low, then return the pan to the burner, let simmer for a minute. After a minute remove the pan from the heat again. Cover, and let set 10 minutes.)
...Because, I took my coffee I was drinking and went up stairs to answer my cell phone that I had left there. I talked a minute or two then checked my messages and forgot all about the boiling eggs.
After a few minutes I heard this 'pop' sound. I thought it came from outside and ignored it. Then a few minutes more heard another 'pop' then another.
So I went down stairs to check it out. As soon as I got down stairs I remembered the eggs. I could smell a sulphuric smell.
As I walked in the kitchen another egg 'popped'.
What a mess, pieces of eggs were all over the stove. Some in the floor too. I threw out the burnt eggs left in the pan and started cleaning the mess up.
Then I opened the door and windows to get the smell out of the apartment.
Needless to say I did not get to eat my egg salad sandwich!

Mother-Daughter Love!

Mother, you are more stubborn then I!

You know me better than anyone.

Yet, you still say I should not go to this Party.

We have known Mary for years,

And she can be trusted, as I can!

Sure there will be boys there,

and what is a Party without boy friends.

You were young once and know how I feel.

You have met John and voiced you like him.

We have been dating seven months now.

I feel you trust both of us and still don’t understand

why you don’t want me to go to this Party.

Have you heard something is going to happen?

And you don’t approve? If you have tell me!

You know I don’t do what everyone else does. I follow no one.

I am adventurous and have done my best to stay out of trouble.

I do know right from wrong! You have taught me that!

You worry too much, and you don’t need too!

I love and respect you and do everything to make you proud!

Mom, I know family is very important! But friends are also important!

Sometimes one can be closer to a friend than a family member.

Mom, isn’t two nights a week enough for family time?

With my job and school nights, that is all I can spare right now.

I need a Party Night out to relax once in a while.

To put on a pretty party dress and hills.

To let my hair down, laugh and dance, with friends.

Oh, I knew you would understand Mom!

That is only one of the reasons, I love you!

You know Mom; one day when you’re gone it will be my friends

there holding my hand as I say my good byes!

And Mom, I do hope that will be a long, long time from now!

Donuts on Ice!

My son had been in the Hospital a few days, having tubes put in his ears and getting his tonsils removed. Jeff had been sick most of his young five years. His tonsils were so large, the slightest sore throat or cold was life threatening for him. His surgery went very well and recovery was great. But Jeff didn’t seem to want to talk anymore. His throat hurt him when he would say anything, so he just stop talking. Instead he would shake his head yes or no.

This January winter day in 1975, on the day we were to go home, the roads were icy and still had snow on top of the ice. I had my car and didn’t want my husband to leave work and come get us. I was kinda used to driving on ice so decided to drive home. I got Jeff checked out of the Hospital and loaded in the warm car. It was a thirty minute drive home and I was nervous. Taking it slow and easy we made it out of town and was doing very well on the country road. There were only a few cars in front of me and we were all staying a safe distance from each other. Driving about the same speed. The road was slick and the car would slide a little, but as long as I stayed in the car tracks it was fine. I was talking to Jeff most of the time, trying to calm him. He still wasn’t saying a word just shaking his head yes or no.

I noticed one of the cars ahead turned off onto a side street. Then after a bit another car went around a pick up ahead of us. The pick up was driving slower and for us to keep our cars moving at a steady speed it was inevitable to go around this pick up. So each car took its turn going around this truck. When it came my turn, I had to wait for the ongoing traffic to clear. My car was really slowing down and up ahead was an incline in the road. I knew I had to go now and get up speed to make it up this incline, or this pick up and I would both be stuck and maybe slide off the road. I knew this road well and there were several more inclines ahead that were much bigger. So I gave it some gas and turn the car into the other lane to go around. As the car hit the icy snow in the center of the road my car went into a spin. It felt like my car turned around a few times. But it had only turned around once, and my car was going back the way we came in the other lane.

My son who hadn’t spoken for a day, finally said ‘Mom, we’er going the wrong way home’! I smiled at him and said ‘yes I know’. I’ll stop at the station we past half a mile back and call Dad to come drive us home, I’m just too nervous to drive the rest of the way home. Dad will be surprised when we tell him we did a donut on ice! Jeff and I both laugh, because we knew how Dad liked to play on ice and snow, and do donuts.

Yorkie Name Hayle!

Hi my name is Hayle, a full Yorkie Terrior! Yes that means my mother and father are Yorkies. My owner and best companion ever, has me registered with the AKC. To describe my size, my small head is in proportion with my compact body; with little prick ears on one end complementing my docked tail on the other. My body is draped in steel-blue wavy silk hair, with redish blonde on my head and legs. My owner combs and fixes my top knot everyday, then bathes me on Sundays. This keeps my medium length hair shiny, clean and tangle free. I guess you could say I’m tiny in size, have glossy good looks, a keen intelligence, and have a big-dog outlook on life. I’m athletic and like my morning walks with my owner. That’s when I get to say hello to our neighbors and a handsomely Red haired Pomeranian that lives down the street. I’m friendly and outgoing, only speak dog, not English. I can recognize an astonishing number of words, my favorites are ‘I love you’ and my owner speaks them every day, when she kisses the top of my head. My owner has learned how to communicate and got my looks, body language and little quite sounds down pat! I don’t bark unless I have too. Like when someone comes to the door or is walking to close to our Apartment. I love being with my owner without being under her feet, but I also like my independence and will go to the bedroom for a nap alone. She lets me sleep on the foot of the bed at night and I think that’s big of her. Since I do snore when I’m sleeping on my back.

My First Auto

My First Automobile, well I should say, the first Automobile I bought for myself, by myself. Was a 2005 Ford Mustang! I had been thinking about buying a new car for a few months and started looking online. I was off work on Saturdays, so I decided to go car shopping. I asked my son to go with me. We had stopped and looked at several dealers in Muskogee and test drove a few cars. We then drove to the Ford Dealer Car lot. They had a lot of Mustangs and that was what I wanted to buy. I fell in love with this car the first time I saw it. I wasn’t thinking of buying a convertible, but when I saw this one, wow, that was the car I wanted. I drove it and liked everything about it, the look, feel, and smell! I liked the deal they made me on the price and bought it. It took a little while to get all the paperwork done before I could drive it home. . My very first, beautiful 2005 white Ford Mustang Convertible, with a black soft top. V6 Automatic, 2 door, keyless entry, black cloth interior, bucket seats. Loaded with power windows, mirrors, cruise control, steering and brakes, aluminum/alloy wheels. Stereo with CD player. It had everything I wanted in a car and more.

My late husband had always been the one to buy our cars since we were married many years ago. He had worked in an Auto Garage as a machanic, since he got out of High School and new automobiles very well. He drove a 1955 green Chevy with white leather interior when I met him back in High School. After High School we got married and bought a 1962 white Chevy pickup with a camper, for a second vehicle. We liked going to the lake and camping. After our daughter and son were born, he bought a 1963 blue Dodge for me to drive. We had sold the 55 Chevy. I remember this Dodge being automatic with push buttons to change the gears. I drove the Dodge until reverse went out, so we sold it. Then he bought a blue 1966 Mercury, Comet. It didn’t have air conditioning and I drove with the windows down in the hot summer time. It was a nice car, but without air conditioning we didn’t keep it very long. Then in 1982 he bought a new Chevy, Monty Carlo for my birthday. The color was Cream and Champagne a very pretty car. I loved that car and drove it several years. My daughter and son learn to drive using the Monty Carlo. Both of them used it to take their drivers license test. We sold it later after the kids were grown and bought a 1985 Red Nissan pickup. In 1989 bought a blue and silver Ford pickup. Then in 1995 we thought we needed a Ford Van. We liked to take weekend trips and had 3 grandchildren by then. So a Van was nice to have. Much later we drove a 1998 Silver Dodge pickup and 2001 Silver Toyota, Ecco. Thinking back now, I guess we changed cars about every 4 years. Over the past years I learned a lot about Cars and a little about buying and selling them by watching and listening!

A few weeks after I bought my new Ford Mustang, I decided to take a weekend trip in my new car. Early Saturday morning I packed an overnight bag and started out toward Memphis, Tennessee. I had been driving over an hour and realized I forgot to tell my kids I was going out of town for the weekend. So I called my daughter to tell her. She scolded me a little for leaving town without telling her or her brother first. This was something I had to get used to doing now that I was a Widow and lived alone. I am such an independent person and old habits are hard to break. When my husband was living and we were going to go out of town for trips, he was the one that called the kids and let them know our plans. Now it’s up to me, so when I decide to go, I call my kids and tell them first.

I took many fun trips after that and joined the Mustang Club. It was fun Cruising down route 66, in my Ford Mustang with the top down, with all the other Mustangs. I was proud and it felt good to own my Mustang! Years later I sold the Mustang. I still miss it!

Automobiles play a big part in our everyday lives. Most of us need them to get from one place to another. We use them for work and play. I have been driving so many years. I don’t know what I would do without a Automobile! Owning my own Car gives me freedom to go, where I want and when I want. I don’t have to depend on someone else for transportation.

My Empty Heart

We married so young in our teens
High School sweethearts
Had a daughter a son and later three grandchildren
Our love grew strong and stronger as the thirty eight years passed
shared everything and loved being together
We were truely best friends lovers and soulmates
One day Illness came and slowly pulled you down
Doctors knowledge spoken depression followed
Lung cancer consumed nodes bones brain
Radiation burned and weakened body
No chemo to prolong were your wishes
You suffered bearing pain each day to have one more
Tears left behind the last breath
Your spirit gone long before you left my arms
Tears and tears I have cried
Gone cold holding you next to me
Nothing left but my empty heart
